Holy Moly… I don’t know where the Exalted wallpaper got linked from, but my personal website has just gone down which means that all my LJ pics are toasty as well.

I’m happy the image is popular, but now I have to figure out how to get my website back up and find some alternate hosting for that image.

Gimme a few hours here…

The Publishing Gauntlet – Part Five

It looks like the articles are going over quite well with readers, professionals and retailers which is quite gratifying. I figured that peeking behind the scenes like this would be a bit risky, but it seems to be paying off so far. 2 weeks until Origins and Exalted #0 goes on sale.

Like all the special con issues Udon has released over the past 3 years, we’ve done a low print run since sales are almost entirely through the conventions and/or for promotion to retailers. We’ll be selling issue #0 at the cons for $5.00 each. The regular issues starting in October will be priced like regular comics… final price is still undetermined, but I expect it to be between $2.99 and $3.50 per issue.

We’ll also be selling a 19 x 25 art print of Jasara for $25.00 each. This limited to 500 copies numbered print is a large litho-style 4-color print, vivid and quite frame-worthy… you’d usually pay $40+ for something like this at most conventions. The line art was drawn by Noi Sackda, the character penciller for the comic, with incredible paints by the talented Christine Choi.

So for $30 you can have the special edition comic and a gorgeous art print. Not too shabby.

On the left I have a wallpaper image done up of the Jasara art print piece… click on the thumbnail for the 1024×768 version… then imagine that picture vivid, crisp and almost two feet tall on your wall 🙂

Zero Dinner

Here’s the Exalted comic crew (minus our colorist Roberto, who doesn’t live in Canada) celebrating the zero issue’s arrival:

Greg Boychuk – Background artist extraordinaire
Noi Sackda – Killer Character artist

Gally – Shy but skilled Co-Writer
Erik Ko – Udon Head Honcho

Zub – Ringleader on this mad project.

Delivery!

What’s this?

Many strange boxes have arrived postmarked to Udon…. here are some of them stacked neatly together:

and inside…

Exalted #0 arrived today from the printers! I can’t wait until Origins at the end of the month and all the conventions beyond. For me, the summer starts today 🙂

More photos later… we’re having a celebratory dinner in a couple hours… I’ll get some goofy photos of the crew with their copies of issue zero.

Sunday – Zoo Day

Went to the Metro Zoo today with friends. I can’t even remember the last time I went to the Toronto Zoo. I might have been 9 or 10 years old…. maybe a bit older.

The weather was muggy and the walk was draining, but it was a good day overall. We showed up at the zoo nice and early to avoid the crowds and left before the sun was completely kicking our asses. I took a lot of photos and looking at them now a bunch turned out really well.

My legs and feet are brutally sore now. I think I got a bit too much sun on my arms, neck and face. God forbid I actually get some color to my skin this summer, heh.

Now I’m lazily stumbling around the apartment taking in the glory that is the air conditioning. I’ve gotta get myself motivated to get a bunch of work done tonight. No matter what though, I know one thing is for sure- I’m gonna sleep like a baby.

Okay, enough chatter, I’ll let the photos do the talking, enjoy!

A bunch of photos behind the cut…

Katamari Paper

Took a break this evening and caught a showing of Miyazaki’s latest film called Howl’s Moving Castle. It was good, but not fantastic. The english dub was a bit drab and some of the plot points were severely under explained, leaving a lot of head scratching as to why characters were doing certain things or how they tied together. The animation and design were a joy though, which is to be expected from Studio Ghibli. I’m curious to watch a subtitled version and see if any of it becomes a bit clearer.

Plugging away on projects into the night, I took another short little break so I could build a paper sculpture of the Little Prince from Katamari Damacy, one of the craziest and fun video games I’ve ever played. The game is so simple and happy that you just have to smile while playing it… so strange and addictive. The soundtrack will also wedge itself into your brain like glue. A couple weeks ago I was just wandering around my place humming it to myself punctuated with the occasional refrain of ‘Katamari’.

Okay, g’night.

Exalted 2nd Edition Confirmed

White Wolf Announces Second Edition of Exalted

Atlanta, GA; June 10, 2005—Ending a rash of speculation, White Wolf Publishing announced today that it will be releasing a second edition of its wildly popular pen-and-paper roleplaying game Exalted in 2006. White Wolf first gave hints of its intentions with a titillating “leak” in its quarterly catalog, and it has now confirmed that the Second Edition will be in stores early next year.

The early “leak” brings to mind White Wolf’s long campaign of hints and teases surrounding the original 2001 release of Exalted, which left fans speculating for more than a year as to what the prospective game might actually be about. This time around, though, White Wolf promises fans a far shorter wait for this much advanced version of its anime- and wuxia-inspired reimagination of epic fantasy storytelling.

On the design side, Exalted Art Director Brian Glass is approaching the forthcoming project with a zeal inspired by the game’s legacy to date. “I’ve striven to push myself as a designer for each hardback book we’ve done,” said Glass, “so to be able to take this fantastic setting and reshape it visually, adding to the vast lushness that’s come before, is an exciting task that I can’t wait to undertake.” Also looking forward with great enthusiasm is John Chambers, the copyeditor for every Exalted book to date, save one. “As the Exalted editor since the launch of the line,” Chambers raves, “I’ve watched the evolution of the game since prior to its debut, and I can say without fear of contradiction that the second edition Geoff and I have cooked up is an even stronger game than the original.”

What’s more, the second edition of Exalted not only showcases revisions and refinements of the rules and setting, but highlights the passing of the torch to John Chambers from Exalted Developer Geoffrey C. Grabowski. With the new edition, John Chambers steps fully from the role of editor and co-developer to sole developer and intellectual property manager.

“John and I are of one mind here in reverence and irreverence,” outgoing developer Grabowski said. Added Chambers, “I’m ecstatic that, when he decided to move on, Geoff chose me to succeed him as Exalted developer, and I’m looking forward to putting my own stamp on this game that I love.”

The second edition of Exalted, a 352-page full-color hardcover roleplaying rulebook, releases in February 2006.

Gamers Across The Hall – Part 2

Following up on yesterday’s post

Okay, I was taking out the recycleables later in the day… I wasn’t even trying to eavesdrop and I heard one of the players raise his voice because his ‘anima banner is flaring’

Holy shit, they ARE playing Exalted! I couldn’t believe it! So…

I knocked on their door and chatted with them. Two gamer guys in their early thirties. One of them had noticed Warhammer 40K boxes amongst my stuff when I was moving in but they didn’t know if they should knock on my door either so had just let it go. Heh. They’re big Exalted fans, but not freaky gamer types or anything. They invited me to game with them some time and I told them my schedule is pretty batshit lately.

Once I got a decent feel for the fact that they weren’t going to be stereotypical scary gamers I let them know what I do. They were really surprised, but also quite cool about it too. Once the current slate of projects die down we may try a night of board games or card games to break the ice and enjoy a few beers.

They both had extensive Exalted collections, which was neat. One of them was missing Savant & Sorcerer so I gave him an extra comp copy I had here. He was really grateful.

All in all, it went well. I know it sounded silly being nervous about it, but I’m glad took the plunge and chatted with them. Getting their unbiased opinions about Exalted before they found out what I do for a living was quite informative.

Heh, gaming neighbours. I like my building.

Anyways, thought you guys and gals might want to know how it turned out.
