All-New Secret Skullkickers Reviews

All-NewSecretSkullkickers01-585x900All-NewSecretSkullkickers01B-585x900

Part four of our latest Skullkickers story arc arrived in stores last Wednesday. Here’s how critics have responded so far:

Newsarama: “8/10 What’s really impressive about the fourth part to this story arc is the way in which Zub is able to keep the humor fresh.”

Comics! The Blog: “It’s smart, it’s gorgeous and it’s the remedy to the frequent insistence on ‘dark and gritty’ stories because they’re the ‘serious’ ones. Skullkickers is the remedy for a lot of things.”

Comic Book Resources: “4/5 If you’re a fan of fantasy in any forms – movies, games, books, or even other comics – and you’re not reading Skullkickers, you should be.”

Read Comic Books: “8/10 The book often feels like a game of Dungeons & Dragons gone wrong, but the execution is so right.”

Comics Nexus: “This book is always a great deal of fun to read, and Zub and his crew continue to have a great time playing around with some comics conventions.”

Nerd Appeal: “Skullkickers is always the most fun I have reading a comic book each and every month!”

Page and Panel: “It’s quirky, witty and so easy to get into. And the art – the art is so fun and violent, but still very cool.”

eXpert Comics: “SKULLKICKERS #22 is pure fun and for anyone who enjoys a romp of high adventure delivered with generous side-order of snark, than this book (and the whole series) is a must read.”

Travelling Man: “Skullkickers is the most fun I’ve had reading fantasy in ages. It’s completely enthusiastic, cheerfully silly and constant, relentless fun.”

Nominated for ‘Outstanding Writer’ 2013 Shuster Award!

ShusterAward

It’s a three-peat!

I’ve been nominated in the ‘Outstanding Writer’ category of the 2013 Joe Shuster Canadian Comic Book Awards for the third time in a row.

I’m humbled and thrilled to be recognized for my work by the nominating committee. Thanks so much!

The awards will be given out in late August here in Toronto. Wish me luck!

Bravoman Episode 3 Released!

The third episode of Bravomation, written by Matt Moylan, shows Bravoman trying to enjoy an afternoon of video gaming. Trust me, it’s more exciting than that synopsis sounds.

‘Why I Love Comics’ Interview

Last night I spoke to Eric Ratcliffe of ‘Why I Love Comics’ all about creator-owned comics, Skullkickers, Munchkin, the source of my comedy and the joys of conventions. Click on through and give it a listen.

Exalted Comic Reward Added to the 3rd Ed Kickstarter!

Exalted3e

The first professional comic I ever wrote (well, co-wrote, but anyways) was the UDON/White Wolf co-produced Exalted comic mini-series back in 2005. Now, 8 years later, I’m coming back to write a brand new Exalted comic story!

As part of Onyx Path’s Exalted 3rd Edition Kickstarter campaign they’ve added a new stretch goal reward tier for an Exalted one-shot comic:

“At $525,000 of contributions, every backer at Scholar of Lore or higher will receive a free Exalted Comic PDF. This 20+ page, full-color comic, will be written by Jim Zubkavich, writer and creator of Skullkickers and long-time Exalted freelancer and illustrated by Hans “Hanzo” Steinbach. We will also unlock two new Reward Tiers that will allow backers’ Exalted characters to appear as crowd scene extras or as minor characters in the comic.”

If you’re a White Wolf fan, Exalted fan or Jim Zub comic fan, check out the Kickstarter campaign and see what you think. Lots of great rewards are being added as the Exalted 3rd edition crowdsource campaign breaks each new stretch goal.

Bravoman Episode 2 is Out!

This second episode of Bravomation, written by Matt Moylan, introduces ninja princess Waya Hime, voiced by the incredibly talented Romi Dames.

Bravoman Tribute Pin-Up

Bandai-Namco has been celebrating Bravoman’s 25th Anniversary with the release of the new Bravoman cartoon, new webcomics and a series of tribute pin-ups by different artists.

Here’s my pin-up for the site.
